Joe Roy
A native of Bridgeport, CT, Joe Roy has had a passion for weather from the time he learned to speak. In fifth grade he would prepare and announce a daily weather report over the intercom at Park City Magnet school. At Western Connecticut State University, he earned a B.S. degree in meteorology in the fall of 2008, while completing dual tracks in operational and theoretical meteorology. While attending WCSU, Joe worked as a research assistant for nearly three years where he took part in many projects including fabricating buoy parts for a Multi-Sensor float which measures air-sea interaction fluxes. He performed research experiments at NASA’s Air-Sea Interaction Facility at Wallops Island, Virginia. He also performed research on chartered vessels off the coasts of Block Island, RI and the Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility pier in Duck, NC. Joe also completed a senior research project with Jacob, titled Terrain-Induced Local Weather Phenomena of Candlewood Lake (you can view it here). Joe enjoys living in the Northeast because of the broad spectrum of weather found there, but is most recognized for his love (some would call it an obsession) for east coast snow storms. Joe is a member of the American Meteorological Society and senior forecaster at 4cast4you.
